Goya’s Zaragoza
His paintings at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, Zaragoza Museum and the Goya Museum Ibercaja Collection-Camón Aznar Museum allow you to follow the footsteps of the genius
Born in the Zaragoza town of Fuendetodos, Francisco de Goya had a tempestuous relationship with the Aragonese capital, which left a significant mark on the city. For example, we can follow the painterly genius’s trail to the cupola he painted in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, or other spectacular frescoes in the charterhouse at Aula Dei, just a half hour from the centre in the rural Peñaflor neighbourhood. Goya is also featured in the collection of works on display near Plaza del Pilar, at the recently remodelled Goya Museum Ibercaja Collection-Camón Aznar Museum, which holds a complete collection of Goya’s engravings. At the Zaragoza Museum you can see some of the most representative works from his initial period in Aragón and his early years in Italy.
